Eva was born in Berlin in 1922. She
and her parents were scared when they
learned Hitler came to power on January
30, 1933. Eva continued to attend public
school until the Nazis forced her to
attend a private Jewish school. Her
father, who had served in the German
Army during World War I, hoped that
the Nazis would disappear. Eva’s
mother was more realistic about the
political situation. After the November
Pogrom (Kristallnacht), Eva’s
parents arranged for Eva to go on the
Kindertransport to England. Eva spent
the war years in England and met her
husband, Frank, in 1945. Eva and her
husband and infant son immigrated to
the United States in 1947. Eva was
able to reunite with her parents who
had managed to leave Germany in 1942
while Eva was in England.
