Map: Vienna, Austria where Marietta D. was born.

Marietta was born in Vienna in 1928. For the first ten years of her life, she enjoyed a comfortable existence living in the Jewish area of Vienna. After the Anschluss, when the Germans annexed Austria to the Reich, Marietta remembers how Jews were persecuted and humiliated. Her parents managed to arrange for Marietta to leave Germany with the Kindertransport in 1939. Marietta came to the United States in 1951 and met her husband the following year.
