Passion plays started during the Crusades, and they depict the crucifixion, trials and resurrection of Jesus. Today, passion plays are performed all over the world and throughout the United States. Until recent changes were enacted in 1990, and again in 2000, the Oberammergau Passion Play included large amounts of antisemitism.
