Honoring the Memory of Raoul Wallenberg & Presentation with Author, Morris Wolff

May 17, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Thirty-four years ago, when Morris Wolff was practicing international and trial law in Philadelphia and was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, he was asked by the half-brother of Swedish diplomat, Raoul Wallenberg, to sue the Soviet Union and force them to release his brother.   Raoul Wallenberg, who was not Jewish, was instrumental in saving tens of thousands of Jewish lives in Nazi occupied Hungary. Kidnapped by the Russians, he disappeared into the Soviet Gulag. Much of the mysteries surrounding Wallenberg’s imprisonment, the circumstances of his death, and his possible ties to US intelligence remain unsolved. Wallenberg’s many courageous actions earned him many honors, including the titles of Honorary Citizen of the United States, and “Righteous Among the Nations” by the State of Israel.

Wolff has written a book about his pro bono effort to rescue Wallenberg from a Soviet prison, and he will be the featured speaker at an interfaith event on Wednesday, May 17th, 7:00 PM, at the Bryan Glazer Family JCC, 522 S. Howard, Tampa. The program will include a presentation and book signing by Wolff and a commemoration honoring the work and memory of Wallenberg provided by area clergy. A dessert buffet will follow the program.

While the event is free and open to the Tampa Bay community, those who wish to become Patrons will receive VIP reserved seating for two (2) at the presentation, an autographed copy of Wolff’s book, a private pre-event meet-and-greet session with Wolff at 6:00 pm, and recognition in the event program.

The Florida Holocaust Museum is a Community Partner for this event. This evening is sponsored by the Tampa Jewish Book Festival and Tampa Ameet Chapter of Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America.
