Join the 2020 Docent Class
Being a docent at The Florida Holocaust Museum is one of the most remarkable experiences. You will have a unique opportunity to work with Holocaust Survivors and carry their message to the next generations. Docents work with students of different age groups (5th grade and up) and help us translate the lessons of the Holocaust into today. You will also have a chance to meet artists and guest speakers at programs designed just for docents.
The class will start the last week of January 2020. Sessions will be held Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for 6 to 8 weeks (depending on the size of the group). There is a $150.00 (non-refundable) fee for materials and a Museum family membership – we require all docents to be members of the Museum. You will also be required to shadow a tour at least 3 times before the class starts (you can sign up for shadowing by contacting the Museum). Prior to the class, candidates are interviewed by members of our Docent Council.
In order to complete the Docent Class program, you will need to attend all sessions and pass a final assessment conducted by the Docent Council.
Docents are expected to sign up for groups once a week during the school year. It’s a long-term commitment as we depend on your availability to work with student groups visiting the Museum. We wouldn’t be able to fulfill our mission without our dedicated cadre of docents.
