We Were There…Memories of the Holocaust

The book is the result of a writing workshop for Holocaust survivors run by Urszula Szczepinska, Curator of Education, and in cooperation with two renowned St. Petersburg Times journalists, Lane DeGregory and Jeff Klinkenberg.  The workshop and the anthology are based on the original concept developed by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.

Kaddish in Wood:  Memorial Woodcarvings – Ghettos, Camps and Partisans

Since April 2002, Dr. Herbert Savel has dedicated his time to commemorating victims of the Holocaust through creating woodcarvings based on archival photographs from that era.  Many of the carvings have been donated to The Florida Holocaust Museum and are a core of our permanent exhibit.

After tremendous feedback to the first book in the Kaddish in Wood series, dedicated to the memory of Jewish children who perished in the Holocaust, Dr. Savel created a second book depicting carvings with scenes from ghettos, camps and those of Jewish partisans.  This powerful book helps us ensure the memory of these individual victims is saved from being forgotten.
